The Ranthambore National Park

Near the town of Sawai Madhopur, midway between Bharatpur and Kota, Ranthambore National Park is one of the prime examples of Project Tiger's conservation efforts in Rajasthan. Sadly, it also demonstrates the gram's overall failure, for it was in this park that government officials were implicated in the poaching of tigers for the Chinese folk medicine trade.

The Keoladeo Ghana National Park


The sanctuary was formerly a vast semi-arid region, filling with water during the monsoon season only to rapidly dry up afterwards. To prevent this, the Maharaja of Bharatpur diverted water from a nearby irrigation canal and, within a few years, birds began to settle in vast numbers. The Maharaja was compelled not by conservationist motives, but by the desire to have a ready supply of waterfowl, affording fine shooting (and dining) possibilities.
