Tourist offices:

The Tourist Reception Centre (Tel. No. 265256) is in the RTDC's Tourist Hotel compound on MI Road and is open on all days between 10 am to 5 pm except on Sunday. It has a range of literatures and the staff are quite helpful. There's another tourist office (Tel. No. 315714) on platform no-1 at the train station. It's open from 7 am to 6 pm daily. The government of India tourist office (Tel. No. 372200) is in the Hotel Khasa Khoti, but it's of limited use.


Money:

You can change money at Thomas Cook (Tel. No. 360940) on the 1st floor of Jaipur Towers on MI Road. It's open daily between 9.30 am to 6 pm except on Sundays. The Bank of Rajasthan (Tel. No. 381416) in the Rambagh Palace changes money and is conveniently open between 7 am to 8 pm daily.

The Andhra Bank (Tel. No. 369606), MI Road, does cash advances on MasterCard, Visa and JCB (Japanese Credit Bureau) cards. The Central Bank of India (Tel. No. 317419), Anand Building, Sansar Chandra Marg, issues cash advances on MasterCard and Visa (minimum $100).


Post & Communication:

The main post office (Tel. No. 368740) on MI Road is quite efficient and there's a man at the entrance who sews up parcels, sealing them with wax.
DHL Worldwide Express (Tel. No. 362826) is in a lane off MI Road at C-scheme, G-7A Vinobha Marg. It operates air freight around the world.
There are scores of round-the-clock local or long-distance telephone booths in Jaipur, and their charges are generally cheaper than the hotels.


Internet Resources: 

Internet outlets are rapidly mushrooming in Jaipur. One good fairly central place where you can snack and surf is the "Mewar Cyber Café & Communication" (Tel. No. 206172, email:
mewar@jp1.dot.net.in), near the main bus station on Station Road.


Bookshops:

If you're on the hunt for reading materials, there's a wide range of English-language books as well as magazines and maps at "Books Corner", MI Road (near Niro's restaurant). You can pick up a copy of the informative "Jaipur Vision" here, which contains useful information about the city. A good range of titles can also be found in the bookshops at the "Rambagh Palace", "Rajputana Palace Sheraton" and at the "Bissau Palace hotel".


Medical Services:

Should you need medical attention, the "Sawai Ram Mansingh Hospital" (Tel. No. 560291) is on Sawai Ram Singh Marg and you'll find the "Santokba Durlabhji Hospital" (Tel. No. 566251) on Bhawani Singh Marg. Most hotels can arrange for a private doctor.
