Toilets
In five star hotels and guesthouses geared mainly for foreign tourists, sit-down, flush toilets and toilet paper are invariably supplied.
Off the beaten track, at train stations (and other public places) and in places that don't specifically cater
to foreigners, it's squat toilets only. In such circumstances it's customary to use your hands
and water, not paper.
A strategically placed tap (and usually water container) is available in squat toilets. If you can't get used to the Indian method, bring your own paper (none is supplied but is widely available to buy).
But remember, that stuffing paper (and tampons) down such a toilet is simply going to clog
the sewerage system.
Sometimes a plastic bin is provided for the disposal of paper and tampons. If not, try to take paper with you to dispose of elsewhere.
