Electricity
The electric current is 230-240V AC, 50cycles. Electricity is widely available in the main towns and cities and tourist destinations. Sockets are the three round-pin variety, similar (but not identical) to European sockets. European round pin plugs will go into the sockets, but as the pins as the pins on Indian sockets are somewhat thicker, the fit is loose and connection is not always guaranteed.
You can buy small immersion elements, perfect for boiling water for tea or coffee, for Rs 50. For about Rs 70 you can buy electric mosquito zappers. These take chemical tablets that melt and give off deadly vapours (deadly for the mosquito that is). There are many different brands and they are widely available-they come with quaint names such as Good Knight.
